PRT 500- Conceptual Foundations in Parks, Recreation Tourism & Sport
Race and Gender in Sports Professions
Analysis/Reflection:
I'm not even in this video until 8 minutes and 26 seconds in, I don't play a big role in it, and it's far from my best presentation. So why use it as an artifact? Because working on this project as a team was a formative moment in my learning and helped connect me to my classmates and the objectives of the coursework. Not being a "sports person", I decided to stretch a bit and embraced the idea of working with a group of mostly sports professionals on this project. In this video you'll hear a white female and two black men weave their personal stories in with data about race and gender disparities in the sports professions. This issue is important in many ways, but the thing I was most interested (which we don't discuss) is the impact these disparities have on youth thinking about how to turn their recreation and leisure loves into a career.
